The families are linked by the spirit of a young girl, Alice - the daughter of a family that lived in the house in 1968, who died under mysterious circumstances. This distinctive contemporary drama stars an ensemble cast including Jodie Whittaker (Cranford; Venus) playing Ruth Bowen, the grieving mother living in Marchlands in the 1960s, with her husband, Paul (Jamie Thomas King - Tudors) who is struggling to cope with her difficult and dominating mother-in-law, Evelyn Bowen, played by Tessa Peake-Jones (Only Fools and Horses). Alex Kingston (ER; Doctor Who) stars as Helen Maynard, who plays the mother of a 1980s family who becomes concerned by her daughter's imaginary friend called Alice and finally Shelley Conn (Mistresses) plays Nisha, who moves to Marchlands with her partner, Mark (Elliot Cowan - The Fixer) and are expecting a baby.
